This special edition 3 minute ad-takeover celebrates the Queen’s 90th Birthday, was commissioned by ITV creative and directed by Jon Yeo, who’s creative approach worked perfectly with Lord Whitney’s playful art direction. This wasn’t your average street party – it was shot on Coronation Street, with 60 shots filmed over 2 days. With brands and celebs galore, it was no mean feat to create this bold and colourful world.
As art directors, Lord Whitney always seek to create something a little different, in this case the intention was to come up with an alternative way of dressing a huge street party. Less triangular-bunting-meets-victoria-sponge-cake and more graphic and stylised, injecting colour and fun onto one of Britain’s most beloved streets. The red, white and blue colour palette nods to the Union Jack without being so obvious, and hints of gold give a sense of royalty and party glitz. There are giant balloons, stylised food and block colour painted props, not to mention plenty of umbrellas as a homage to our wonderful British weather.
